October 13, 2006. Portland, OR -- Fusion Systems International (http://www.FusionSystems.com) today announced that it recently upgraded the prepress workflow at the Antelope Valley Press, in Palmdale, California. As a result of automated imposition and other improvements in the workflow the company is now seeing greatly improved productivity.
The Antelope Valley Press produces the Antelope Valley Press daily newspaper, several weekly publications. as well as other commercial press work. The upgrade by Fusion Systems has greatly improved productivity at the Antelope Valley Press by providing automation for the daily and weekly publications, as well as advanced soft proofing, ROOM color and b/w hard proofing and output load balancing.
Automation was achieved through automated page-pairing and load-balanced output to a pair of Autologic 3850 imagesetters. Fusion Systems' DigiPage ROOM plugin for the Harlequin RIP was integral to the solution. Fully RIPped single-page DigiPage files are automatically imposed using the DynaGram Automate imposition solution, which pairs and outputs the RIPped pages as they arrive in the input hot folders. Since this workflow allows for individual pages to be submitted as they are completed, the workload is spread more evenly throughout the day.
At any time a news page or display ad designer can print a single page or series of pages to a published "Proofing" queue and automatically generate a Fusion raster-proof on an HP wide-format proofer such that the hardcopy proof shows exactly how the job will print on press. This is possible because the color data is created directly from the high-resolution, half-tone screened separations. Prior to final film output, operators at the Antelope Valley Press soft-proof the actual high-resolution RIPped plate separations using the FirstProof soft-proofing package from Hamillroad Software. These final pages can be approved and output directly from FirstProof to the 3850s, greatly reducing film waste and delays in plating.
